Misdirected Though It Might Be, It Is Still a Passion- My Twisted View of a Twisted World

Blog EntryNov 15, '08 3:03 AM
for everyone

Sometimes I wonder why I always start my blog entries with the word "sometimes". Sometimes you read someone else's stuff and you think of things to reply that could up a blog entry on it's own. In this person's blog I said :
That's the problem. You seem too smart to be appreciated and voted in by the electorate. I hate to be blunt but if its true that 's why I am saying it- to be president in this country , the last thing and the worst thing you can do is appeal to people's intellect. Our voters either don't have it or do not use it. For me the intellect of our country men is blatantly displayed weekdays at noon time on so called "free tv" . That is why some of us have pessimistic feelings about where this country is and where it's going. We all want to be proud but if you guys ever read my blog http://cornholiogogs.multiply.com/journal I constantly talk about people taking pride in the wrong things and not valuing the right things. I have no idea why this country stops functioning and hoops and hollers over a Filipino who 3 times a year flies to Las Vegas and beats up on some Mexican when they take pride in voting in and supporting politicians who rob everybody blind. Bob Dylan once sang "Steal a little and they put you in jail, steal a lot and they make you king".

The title may sound inflammatory but it actually isn't. The author seems to make the point that he would rather the person's claims be false but the country has not given him much to work with. He does tell us to keep in mind the date of the piece. Who was president then? Oh yeah , the same guy depicted in the comic at the top of the page.

They say you can tell a person by who defends them. Well let me give you an example of who defends and supports Erap

For years now I have the fundamental belief that Richard Gomez represents everything that is wrong with the Philippines. His values, the people who value him , his over estimation of his superiority. Well tonight I am pleased I find someone out there in the blogosphere who believes this more than I do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJiyoKOCyWw  (with an endorsement like this, how can he go wrong?)

I can honestly say either I am not crazy since someone else sees what I see or this someone else is just meeting me at my level. However sublime that is.

Are you kidding me????!!!!! When will the Filipino's learn!!!! This is tragic!

The country may be hopeless, but I still am at the very least optimistic. Even if I hate the country most of the time, for the times that I don't, I try to at least see a little good in the Philippines. "They say you can tell a person by who defends them." Perhaps, it must mean too that you can tell a person by who he defends. Then I guess that explains it, because even if I'd rather be of different nationality, it's natural for me to not completely dismiss the idea of a "better future" for the country (even if future means hundreds of years from now) because I'm born Filipino not by choice but by fate. I'm sure you and the other people (myself included) voice out your opinion partly because you hate how the Philippines is run, but mostly because you want the Philippines to change. And that long-desired change is something I believe in.

Hope I made sense haha. :)

What is so tragic is that Richard Gomez believes that he has the mental and moral capacity to be a lawmaker! And to have Robin Padilla a known lawbreaker and womanizer endorse him! And to think that this standard is acceptable to the Filipino's is the biggest tragedy of all because it may be true!

You said the key word Anna, "Learn". Based on what I see in public (I walk and drive down Pasay Road a lot) , what I see in malls and public transit. What I see that garners a telivision audience here. What I try to impart to my office mates . Learning, order, civility are all things most Filipinos are not interested in. Pinoys love Friendster. My personal opinion is that love is vanity based . I am basing that on what I see in my office. The Internet is such a powerful learnng tool but it is used as an outlet for cel phone pictures taken by one's own hand. I parody that sentiment here http://cornholiogogs.multiply.com/journal/item/336/Me_Myself_and_I_ Go all the way down. We have this receptionist who loves to do that pose right at the entrance of the office. I mean management does not have the balls to say "Look . You will be the first impression a new client gets of our company when they walk in the door. We can't have you be seen taking pictures of yourself like some shallow twit." Everybody else in the office when they saw that picture laughed because that is exactly what she does.

You did make sense. Why would you want to lead a country you hate? You feel disgust because you have higher expectations. I have never met you but I don't believe you are Richard Gomez. The old joke about the lightbulb has to want to change applies totally to us. Anyway my suggestion is learn what you can , affect people one by one and then they in turn affect people. Sell yourself as a model worth copying. Trust and reinforce your values.

You might learn a lot from this post and this video

I have this post in my drafts section about celebrity endorsements. Because Kris Aquino and Joey Marquez seem to attract their fair share. Their flaws sell newspapers and magazines and it does not bother people? Values is key. Values will dictate what you like and don't like and how you will behave. Here I only watch cable sports since I love it and also I do not get exposed to Fililipino ads. Maybe I will continue working on that thought. As a nation what do we value?

You feel disgust because you have higher expectations
Well said. We do have higher expectations and yet it doesn't seem to resonate with the rest of the country or does it? Filipino's migrate and become law abiding citizens of other countries, they know enough to seek greener pastures where their host countries have good governance and higher expectations for those that lead and yet in our home country Richard Gomez and the like are able to run for office and very few are insulted by this? Who's to blame for this? Govt? The church? How do you change a nations standard for anything? That's one blog i would love to read and discuss!

yet it doesn't seem to resonate
Actually I am surprised I did not attempt to add something to this Anna. Resonate is the key word. For some reason ABS CBN/ GMA 7 / Viva / Regal / Sampaguita and what have you resonate more than they should. Seiko for all we know ( I forgot her name Barabara somebody ran and won in Pampanga or somewhere. One way off the top off my head of changing a nation's standard for anything is show them a way that works and have it register. Easier said than done I know.

I know several people in the movie industry and they are intelligent people. They do want to educate the people but good movies dont sell! So producers will sell stupid shallow movies. The problem with the masses is not being able to separate fact from fiction. That's true all over the world, not just the phil.

More later but I was reading in some editorial Inquirer years ago that India went through that phase, and learned from it. They learned that you do not search for your nations leaders in Bollywood. Those that do learn from history are condemned to repeat it. India went through a phase and matured. Not sure if it''s a phase for us. Which is why FPJ got so many votes. Don't get why De Castro became vice. Your job is to cover the news not be the news. The electorate not capable of figuring anything out. Pavlov's dog has better learning skills than our country men. I really believe that a big part of the appeal of Gomez/ FPJ/ Erap/ Pacquaio is that they are not exactly cerebral. Intellect and values not valued here.

Let's hope that as the economy of our country gets better and the democracy matures, the people will follow. It will be a long hard climb, but as I see our country develop, I'm a little optimistic. Maybe a whole generation will pass before this happens but never give up hope!

Those of us who have a better knowledge and understanding should not stop speaking up, be it blogging or any other medium available to us, so that we can be heard. It's only in educating the people can we hope for change. They may not always respond but give them enough food for though and when the time comes, they may respond. Just like the first Edsa revolt.

i love how you criticize the stupidity of most filipinos. :D
cornholiogogs wrote on Dec 26, '08
The thing is the powers that be want them to be stupid. SO they can continue to be the powers that be. If every Filipino vows never to vote or support for a politician that employs a goon then where would be as a country?

I love the way you put the truth out there! hahaha. Well said! It's really not a laughing matter but I give credit to you for being one of the few that says it the way it is.

I give my sister credit for putting that thought in my head. Did you notice at our Christmas lunch, two of them wore Obama shirts to tease me. Good natured of course.
